YMCA Camp at Horsethief Reservoir is a great place to learn leadership skills, impact children’s lives, and make friends, all while adhering to the Treasure Valley YMCA’s core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Senior Camp Counselor: As a Senior Camp Counselor you will work in a cabin of 10 to 12 children, 7-12 years old, modeling the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Senior Camp Counselor’s will also run various camp programs such as archery, climbing tower, mountain biking, etc. Applicants must be at least 17 years old and be CPR/ First Aid Certified prior to the summer start date.

Program Staff: Program Staff are responsible for the facilitation of various programs and activities at YMCA Camp at Horsethief Reservoir. Activities may include ropes/challenge courses, waterfront activities, arts and crafts, archery, biking, and team building activities. Successful program staff members will have the ability to create an inclusive and encouraging environment for all campers. All YMCA employees are expected to model and teach the YMCA Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Camp Store/ Office Admin: The Camp Store/Office Admin will work alongside the Camp Director and Registrar to complete small administrative tasks as well as collect and distribute mail. The position will also be responsible for keeping track of inventory and running the Camp Store. The Camp Store/Office Admin must be at least 21 years old, have a valid driver’s license, and be CPR/First Aid certified prior to the summer start date.

Camp Photographer/Videographer: The camp photographer will be responsible for capturing different events and activities around camp throughout the week. At the end of each session you will create a slideshow telling the story of the week at camp. Applicants must be at least 18 and CPR/First Aid certified prior to the summer start date, and be proficient in editing. Applicants will also need to submit a portfolio of their work prior to interviewing.

Camp Unit Leader: As a Camp Unit Leader you will be responsible for the management and upkeep of one of three villages within camp. Each village includes a group of 2-5 cabins with at least 10 kids and 2 staff per cabin. Camp Unit Leaders will also be in charge of creating programming as well as other functional duties around camp. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid driver’s license, and be CPR/First Aid certified prior to the summer start date.

Waterfront Lead: The Waterfront Unit Leader will be responsible for the upkeep and management of the waterfront and lifeguards. Waterfront Unit Leads are responsible for helping implement evening programs as well as tasks around camp. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and have CPR/First Aid, Lifeguard, and WSI certifications prior to the summer start date.

Health Center Lead: As the Health Center Lead you will work alongside our volunteer nurses each week. You will be showing them the “Y Camp way” of keeping records, caring for campers, and dispensing medications under their supervision. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, have a valid driver’s license, and be CPR/First Aid certified prior to the summer start date.

Adventure Camp Unit Lead: As the Adventure Camp Unit Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the Adventure and Expedition Camp programs and staff. Both programs involve primitive camping and backcountry cooking. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, have a valid driver’s license, and be CPR/First Aid certified prior to the summer start date. Wilderness First Aid is preferred.

Adventure Camp Counselor: The Adventure Camp counselor will work with kids 11-14 years of age in a primitive camping setting. You will teach campers outdoor living skills as well as participate in every day camp activities. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and be CPR/First Aid certified prior to the summer start date.

Teen Leadership Counselor: Program Staff are responsible for the facilitation of various programs and activities at YMCA Camp at Horsethief Reservoir. Activities may include ropes/challenge courses, waterfront activities, arts and crafts, archery, biking, and team building activities. Successful program staff members will have the ability to create an inclusive and encouraging environment for all campers. All YMCA employees are expected to model and teach the YMCA Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Retreats & Outdoor Education Staff: Staff are responsible for the facilitation of various programs and activities at YMCA Camp at Horsetheif Reservoir during the spring and Fall Seasons. Activities may include teaching Outdoor Education classes to 5th and 6th grade students, ropes/challenge courses, waterfront activities, and team building activities. Successful Retreats and Outdoor Education staff members will have the ability to create an inclusive and encouraging environment for all participants.

Junior Counselors are those who have completed the Counselor in Training program and are 16 years old. This is a volunteer position that requires a minimum of a 2 week commitment AND a week of staff training. Junior Counselors will live in cabins alongside Senior Counselors and will model the core values of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
